From Elma New York, Shelly began her dance training at the young age of 3. With over 30 years of dance training, Shelly has studied with numerous dance educators in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Acro, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Modern. Her love for dance began at Dance Spectrum in Depew, NY under the direction of Patty Neal. Shelly continued her dance education at the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) receiving a BFA Degree in Dance. While at UB she performed with the Zodiaque Dance Company. After graduating college, Shelly began dancing professionally with Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA. Some of her Choreography/Directing credits with Busch Gardens Williamsburg Include; This is Oktoberfest, Miracles (2009-2013) and Deck the Halls (2009-2013). Shelly is very passionate about dance and proper dance education. She is excited to be passing on her knowledge of and love for dance to others.
Ballet Instructor/Choreographer/Nutcracker Director
Ms. Noelle began her dance training at the Chamber Ballet, and spent most of her summers training in Richmond Ballet’s summer intensives. Noelle attended Butler University to pursue a BFA in Dance Performance and was invited to join Richmond Ballet as a trainee and perform in the corps de ballet. Some of Noelle’s favorite ballets to perform included The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Who Cares?, Sleeping Beauty, and Paquita. Noelle finished her degree in dance performance at Old Dominion University and began teaching for Newport News Public Schools as a dance teacher, and helped coordinate the dance program for NNPS Summer Institute for the Arts, where she taught for three years. Noelle has been teaching dance in the private sector locally since 2009, and on staff with SI dance since 2016. Dancers under Noelle’s training have been selected for summer intensives at ABT, NYCB, Richmond Ballet, Kirov Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, The Rock, Washington Ballet, Ballet West, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Carolina Ballet, Alvin Ailey, and The Dallas Conservatory. Noelle has loved bringing the magic of The Nutcracker to SI Dance, and looks forward to bringing dancers to showcase their talent at Youth American Grand Prix and Universal Ballet Competition. In her free time, Noelle loves spending time with her husband and four children.
Heather started her dance training in the suburbs of Chicago where she trained with Julie Cartier, Pam Johnson-Tannis, Arian Dolan, and Sandra Scaletta. During high school, she continued her training at Gus Giordano’s with John Leher. In 2004, she graduated from The State University of New York at Buffalo with her BFA in Dance. There she trained under the direction of Tom Ralabate, William Thomas, Tressa Crehan, Jeanne Fornarolla, as well as numerous artists in residency. She was a member of Zodiaque Studio Dance Ensemble for three years, as well as performed and choreographed in Dancer’s Workshop and Young Choreographers, as well as additional special programs. After college, Heather performed for three years as a Production Dance for Carnival Cruise Lines. She then spent two years as a member of The Cartier Collective and teaching in at various Chicago dance studios before moving to Virginia. Heather started teaching at the age of 16, and has since worked with students from 2 years old through adults. She spent the last six years teaching in Williamsburg, VA and working with the dancers of SI Dance as a substitute and photographer. She is excited to join the SI Dance family this year.

Joél Casanova was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Dallas, TX. He started dancing HipHop at age 11 and for the next 5 years danced on competition teams. By the age of 16, he was choreographing professionally. Joél moved to Virginia Beach at age 18, where he taught in multiple studios across Hampton Roads while pursuing a BA in Journalism. He created BeatHunter Dance at age 20. Since then, his career as an instructor has grown including teaching STEM through dance, freelance competition choreography, dance intensives, and theatre camps. Joél Casanova has a deep passion for instruction and showing everyone he meets a new way to look at dance.
